The hair update that at least 20 of you have been waiting for…

by Meagan Francis on July 8, 2011

I did it.

Sure, it’s not quite as short as Carey Mulligan’s, but it’s WAY shorter than I’ve ever experienced before. AND I LOVE IT. I feel like it’s a real STYLE: striking, sexy, ‘notice me.’ My hair is usually described as “cute.” Cute is good, but this just feels like so much more than cute.

Oh, and I didn’t find a new stylist after all. I went back to the girl I’d seen just once before, who had given me a good haircut, if not exactly what I’d wanted. This time I pointed at three short-short haircuts and asked her which one she thought would work best for me. She chose one and then gleefully went to work chopping it all off.

Looking back at our first appointment, I think I’d unconsciously given her mixed messages. I’d described a style to her, then picked a photo that a) didn’t match the description I’d just given, and b) wouldn’t really work for my hair texture anyway. So, rightfully, she pointed out that the photo I was pointing at was SHORT, (because what I was describing was NOT SO SHORT.) My fault, and I obviously wasn’t ready at that first appointment to go for it. Isn’t it funny how sometimes we blame others for not giving us what we want, when the real problem was that we didn’t really ASK for it?

Anyway, this time I went in ready to go there, and go there, we did.

And I’m so glad!

I am grateful to everyone for the virtual encouragement. Your comments were ringing in my head as I said, “Ah, let’s quit screwing around and cut it off, already!”

My sexy new ‘do and I thank you.

Love. I think of Heather Armstrong and Danielle Wiley who did the ballsy short cut and rock it. Definitely sexy and your eyes look amazing.

Oh it totally says “notice me”! I love it! I wish I had the guts to go short like that. It’s gorgeous!

FANFANFANTASTIC!!

You are so striking. Wowza.

I did that once, but my hair is too thick–I ended up looking very PTA mom (not the look I was going for at age 23).

Meagan, it looks FABULOUS. Youthful and elegant at the same time.
I got a similar cut a year ago and have loved it — very low maintenance (other than the constant trims!) and somehow makes even a casual outfit look more pulled together. So glad you went for it!!

I love a great new ‘do. looks great!

I agree – you need to really clarify with a stylist if they think a particular style will really *work* with your hair or compliment your facial structure etc. I made the mistake of going for a completely new look with a brand new stylist that didn’t really know my hair very well – - – long story short, i ended up with a duck back mullet that forced me to go back to my regular stylist in shame…thankfully she fixed me right up. ;)

enjoy!

Love the short hair. I’m 45 and have been sporting a stylish short “do” for over 20 years. I like the word striking. The short cut looks striking on you and if you want to change it up with a little height or make it “piece-y” try Bed Head’s Manipulater paste in the turquois jar. It is fabulous! Salons carry it and my grocery store even has it. Awesome look for you!

Looks great! I just chopped mine back to super short after a couple years trying to grow it out (and never making it below the ears) and a couple months dithering. Cool + easy + cute = perfect for busy lady(ies).

LOVE it! I always wanted a do this short but never had the guts until I shaved my head completely for St.Baldrick’s last year. One of the best experience of my life and I’ve gotten to see what I look like with all sorts of short do’s. I kinda like it!

I have a very similar haircut inspired by Emma Watson & Michelle Williams. You are going to love the ease of it.

But be prepared for some interesting bed hair in the AM. :)

Thanks everyone for the flattery! I gladly accept it :)

Meghan, I’ll have my husband take more pics soon and will post them when I can.

Jane – the bed head has been VERY interesting. Sometimes I think the bed head looks better than the way I styled it!

Traci, I have a BedHead product in a turquoise jar but it’s more gummy than a paste. Does this come in a squat round jar, or a ball-shaped jar?
